The Salford Pals Memorial
The Salford Pals Memorial was unveiled on the 1st July 1995 by members of the Lancashire Fusilers Association, The Lancashire & Cheshire Branch of the WFA anfd the Mayor of Authuile. The site was chosen as of the four pals battalions raised in Salford during 1914 and 1915 three of them fought in this area against fortress Thiepval in the opening day of the Battle of the Somme. Lanes around Authuile were filled with the dead and dying men from the dockyards, coal mines, textile mines and engineering works of Salford.
